Slow Burn Honored at Memorial Healthcare System’s Community Champions Luncheon

Elder Arts Program honored by Memorial Healthcare System!

For the second year, Slow Burn Theatre Company was honored at Memorial Healthcare System’s Community Champions Luncheon, an event celebrating the MVPs in our South Florida community who inspire, lead, and make a difference in the lives of seniors.

We are honored to be part of a community that cares so deeply about our senior population. Through our Elder Arts Program, Slow Burn brings the joy of theatre directly to seniors at community centers throughout South Florida, including the Allies Program at Memorial Hospital, Daniel Cantor Senior Center, MODCO Senior Center, West Park Senior Center, Cooper City Active Senior Program, Sunrise Senior Center, SunServe Silver Senior Luncheons, and Northwest Focal Senior Center.

The Elder Arts Program provides engaging theatre workshops designed to connect, inspire, and encourage creative expression. Participants also receive $10 discounted tickets to Slow Burn performances, making it easier for seniors to experience professional musical theatre in their community.

We are incredibly grateful to the Jim Moran Foundation and the Community Foundation of Broward for generously sponsoring both the workshops and discounted tickets. Their support allows us to continue expanding access to the arts and creating meaningful connections with seniors throughout South Florida.

We are proud to be part of a community that celebrates and supports our seniors—and grateful for the opportunity to bring the arts to them.

Introducing our New Title Sponsor: The Islands of the Bahamas!

More about our partnership!

A new chapter begins this fall as Slow Burn Theatre Company welcomes The Islands of The Bahamas as title
sponsor of its 2026/2027 season. The new partnership ushers in another year of bold musical theater at the
Broward Center while reinforcing Slow Burn’s commitment to engaging audiences onstage and beyond.

“As the Islands of The Bahamas continue to embrace unique experiences that reflect our brand promise,
‘It’s Not One Island. It’s a Lifetime of Them,’ we are proud to partner with Slow Burn Theatre Company to
support a season of outstanding talent and captivating storytelling. This collaboration provides a wonderful
opportunity to connect South Florida audiences with memorable live entertainment while showcasing the
vibrant spirit of The Bahamas,” said Jennifer Gardiner-Bannister, Director of Global Sales & Marketing.

“Beyond the stage, we look forward to continuing to engage our community in meaningful ways around the
content of these shows through workshops, talkbacks, school-day and sensory-inclusive performances,” said
Patrick Fitzwater, Slow Burn’s Artistic Director and Co-Founder.

With a new title sponsor, a dynamic season of acclaimed musicals and continued investment in local artists and audiences, the new season reflects both how far Slow Burn has come and what has never changed: a belief in theatre’s power to spark imagination, deepen understanding and build community.

Here’s what to look forward to this season!

The season opens with Come From Away, where audiences discover life as an islander through the story of the 38 planes that were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland on September 11, 2001. This Tony, Olivier, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award-winning musical celebrates extraordinary kindness and humanity’s ability to come together in the most challenging of circumstances.

Holiday magic follows in December with Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Enter Willy Wonka’s world of pure imagination for a “scrumdidleumptious” adventure filled with beloved songs, colorful characters and sweet surprises for the entire family.

Mean Girls takes the stage in February, bringing the hit film’s razor-sharp comedy and high-energy music to life. Round up your besties for this fiercely fetch queen-bee of a musical filled with friendships, frenemies and one unforgettable Burn Book.

In April, Dear Evan Hansen offers a moving exploration of belonging and the desire to be seen. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, this powerful story of hope and healing has resonated with audiences around the world.

The season concludes in June with Rent, presented during the landmark musical’s 30th anniversary year. Jonathan Larson’s iconic Pulitzer Prize-winning celebration of love, art and chosen family remains as urgent and inspiring as ever, creating a powerful finale during Pride Month.
